So I guess every player hits this point in the game, where they know they slowly shuffling out the game and reflect back on what they did right, but mainly what they did wrong. And looking back at my game, I see one glaring mistake.
I made Alina my #1 partner.
I know when she reads this after the game it might hurt her feelings, and for that I apologize. She's a wonderful person and was the best friend I had in the game. The problem is, I put all my trust in her. And, unfortunately, I shouldn't have. Not that she was disloyal in any way. She wasn't. But she has a tendency to get...nervous. And when she gets nervous she tends to act unilaterally rather than after discussing the matter. She jumps first, thinks second.
For example, she let Edgardo talk her into wasting her idol at F9. I told her it was a bad decision and made no logical sense, but apparently Ed told her that having the idol made them a target and so she, he, and Charlie should all just play their idols and get them off the board. Well, we saw how well that worked. All it took was the hint that she was a target and she played right along into Ed's supple hands.
I guess what I'm saying is that Alina was just not cutthroat enough. Or, maybe cutthroat is a bad word. She's not a gambler. She chose Ed over Chet because Ed had an idol and Chet didn't, so Ed was safer. She justified it afterwards by pointing out how crazy Chet went on the way out, but I don't blame Chet for that one bit. When you know you're going you do everything you can to stop it from happening, and if you can't, then why not throw salt on other people's games on the way out? Of course, now she realizes that we should have brought Chet instead of Ed, which is closing the barn door after the cows have run to the hills.
I feel bad because I know this upcoming TC one of us is going. I'm almost 100% they're keeping Charlie for last. Someone will find him useful. I'm feeling melancholy because I may find myself having to throw Alina under the bus to make it another round. And I don't know if I can do it. I guess we're going to find out, aren't we?
